Jacinda Walker is the founder of designExplorr, an organization that celebrates design learning by creating opportunities that expose youth to design, and partners with professionals, parents, and teachers who are passionate about bringing diversity to the design industry in a powerful way. Additionally, she serves as Chair, of AIGA’s Diversity & Inclusion Task Force, a 22-member group divided into 4 sub-committees of multidisciplinary designers across 13 states and 16 AIGA Chapters. Proudly from Cleveland, Ohio, Ms. Walker has over 20 years of industry experience as a designer, instructor and entrepreneur. Her work ranges from designing corporate communications to developing education programs and event management. She earned both her AAB and BFA in graphic design from the University of Akron and a MFA in Design Research and Development with a minor in Nonprofit Studies from The Ohio State University. Her research area of focus explores diversity in design disciplines and presents fifteen strategic ideas to expose underrepresented youth to design-related careers. Jacinda is a strong advocate for young people and proudly mentors several design students on portfolio presentations, professional development and career planning. Her future goals include working with organizations to establish design education initiatives and developing design programs for underrepresented youth.
Jacinda will be helping moderate the IBM Design Thinking Workshop.
